Berkeley Flats
Halibut/Stripers
Launched from Oyster point
at 5:30am with my Nephew Arnold and his Friend John. We picked up Live
Bait at J&P's at Pier 45. Called Ken and he said Ray, Wally and himself
would be going to breakfast and will be back in a couple of hours. The
ride out was flat and drizzling a bit. The wind wasn't bad. We went over
to Berkeley Flats to fish where we immediately started hooking up on Stripers.
Ken (Fishy go Lure) finally showed up and we gave them some bait. We caught
15 kept 3 and released the rest. Most were undersized. Also caught 9 shaker
Halibuts (a couple must have been sand dabs and flounders) we didn't want
to take a chance and they were all really small, so all went back in. John
caught a tiny Ling Cod. At about 11am we decided to fish at the end of
Berkeley Pier and fished next to Jeff (Tomcod) and Wing. At one point we
stopped to watch a group piled in a 15' ski boat haul in a Halibut with
a Micro Lite Trout Pole, Jeff who stopped right next to him to watch yells
out he'd better get his net out. He unburied a really small trout net.
He must of missed about 5 times before netting the head of halibut, the
other half of it was sticking out of the net, looked to be about 8-10 Pounds.
Was the most hilarious thing to watch, but he got it onboard! We also saw
Cinnabar Trolling with Kurt on the back dragging his Swim bait Rig. Tim
(Hukilau), Jeff and Wing (Tomcod) and a zillion other boats, all seem to
be hooking up and having fun. Was really nice to get out on the Flats with
everyone. Hey Jeff the new poles feel great, Thanks!!
