Santa Cruz
Salmon Fishing
Launched out of Santa Cruz to do some Salmon Fishing. Peter Heikel
was my fishing partner today (Great guy to fish with). We arrived and were
in the water at 4:45am. We headed out to some numbers given to us by FishNChips
Ken and Ray. The ride out was lumpy and the moonlight lite up the water
(until we got to our numbers), when we arrive at our numbers it was 9'
swells and foggy. We dropped in and started trolling, we had a couple of
hits but no hook ups. Lots of Jelly Fish causing premature release of the
downrigger and deep six, we fished shallow and deep and in the middle but
to no avail. We decided to pick up and follow a few party boats heading
north of Santa Cruz about 5-6 Miles and the swells had increased to 10'+
and more fog and wind. We trolled but ran into the Jelly Fish problem again.
Fished with "Nightmare" "FishNChips" and "BackBRace". We decided to call
it it a day at 11am. Was seasick despite having the patch on and had done
the turtle call once :( - Will try again when the weather lays down a bit.
Oh well, just a bad day but better than staying at home.
