Half Moon Bay
Rock Cod and Lings
Arrived at 4:45am and on the water at 5am. Launched out of HMB with
Fishing Partner Peter Heikel. We heard of a hot bite 7-8 miles before the
Farralon Islands but decided it would be safer to stay close in since we
didn't have a running partner to go with. We headed out to catch some Rocks
and Lings. Our first, second and third spots didn't produce but 2 rocks,
tried mooching for salmon but ran into jelly fish. We the decided to head
back in closer to shore to another spot I knew produce fish. We scored
a total of 19 fish. 3 Lings (2 shakers) biggest at 30" 12 Pounds, 7 Cabezons
(3 Shakers) Biggest at 6 Pounds, 8 assorted Rocks and 1 Kelp Greenling.
Kept a total of 14 out of the 19 fish landed. All caught on swimbaits,
didn't want to smell fishy but did anyway. Bite died out so headed to another
area try for halibut (no Luck) Weather was flat (bumpy at times) with a
chilly breeze and overcast, wind picked up at 12:30pm and we called it
a day. Was met at the docks by Fish and Game and they went through our
cooler checking for anything undersized and Licenses (all was in order).
Peter as always a pleasure fishing with you, had a great time.
