Half Moon Bay
Salmon, Rock Cod, Lings

Got a call from my Brother In Law and decided to head out of HMB for a day of Rock/Lings/Salmon. We Left my house at 5:30 and launched at 6:30am. we noticed tons of birds diving in and out of the Jaws of the harbor and decided to try in the area, we jigged for a few live anchovies, they were everywhere. After an hour or so of trolling and jigging we decided to head out to my favorite spot. It was pretty calm until the second green bouy by the radar tower where the swells were increasing to 5-7 feet and close together but fishable. We finally arrived at my spot and immediatley noticed we had thought was a fuel leak (not again!!) Not wanting to pull the engine cover in semi rough seas we turned around and made our way back to dock only to find a small cap to my oil tank had popped off and no where to be found and was spewing oil. With some duct tape and a red bead and fishing line and a bit of cleaning it up, was able to McGuyver it together and return to fishing. We decided to try trolling again this time for salmon between the 2 green bouys. On our first  pass we hooked up to a 19 3/4" to small shaker and threw it back. That was it for the salmon. No more hits after that. We decided to head back to my original spot we were at earlier to try again. It was pretty choppy and the wind was picking up and very hard to keep our footing, but was able to scratch up 6 good size Cabezons, 1 greenling Kelp, 1 blue and 4 copper Rockcods. By this time the swells were starting to break around us and was about 7-8 feet. Since not being out for a couple of weeks, I had  lost my sea legs and was getting pretty nauseous and was getting close to Turtle calling. We decided enough was enough and called it a day 11:30am. At the dock we took our time since hardly anyone was around and made a few friends and BS'd for a few minutes. Funny thing at the dock, a guy who I had sold my spare kicker motor a week ago was there and had mentioned  his main Motor had broke down and had to use the kicker to get in. Glad I found someone who could use it and so was he!! Be safe and till next time...Tight Lines!!
