At 6:00am John my Brother in law met me at my house. We launched out
of Oyster Point at 7am and picked up bait at Pier 45. We then headed over
to Point Bonita to try for Halibut. In the distance I could see a fleet
of boats on the SF side at Seal Rock, but the radio chatter from the party
boats indicated no bites yet. We made a few drifts and picked up a rockcod,
starry flounder and had a few take downs but no hook ups. Alot of scratch
baits then nothing. We then decided to head over to Seal Rock to join the
fleet of boats. It was a bit wishy washy and choppy but it flattened out
at top of the tide. There we had alot more scratch baits and take downs. One
lost at the boat, 3-4 came unbuttoned right away. Lots of bait on the screen
and alot of nets going down. We were just having a hard time trying to
keep them on the hook. John finally hooks up and we get this one onboard
(a nice 13 pounder). We were happy! We even had a cheering section off
"The New Golden Eye". After a few more drifts we I finally get one to stay
on and in the boat (15 Pounds). We were able to scratch up 2 more before
the wind really kicked up, both were twins at 15 pounds. We decided to
call it a day at 1:30 and head in. Great ride in with the wind at our backs
all the way to Oyster Point. Finally a day without getting wet and good
size Butts to boot. When we got to our final approach to Oyster Point,
the wind was blasting at least 30 miles an hour, but we were dry! As usual
had a great time, especially fishing on on a weekday and no one to deal
with at the ramp, it was empty.
