At 6:00am John and his friend Kim met me at my house. We launched out
of Oyster Point at 7am and picked up bait at Pier 45. We then headed over
to Point Bonita to try for Halibut. When we got there, there was a fleet
already working the area. Alot of Party Boats and Private boaters. Weather
was not too cold and a little breeze. On our 2nd Drift John hooks up to
something hugh!! John says it was like lifting a truck tire but it was
coming up slowly. My pole goes off on the other side of the boat only to
realize john's fish had tangled with mine. The leader broke off and we
never got to see what it was. We knew it was a Halibut by the way it was
coming up. What a disapointment!! Well that's fishing, we drop our lines
back in and make a few more drifts. John's pole goes off again, this time
I reel up to get my gear out of the way (even though I'm on the other side
of the boat), Kim does the same not wanting to get tangled either. Kim
netted it on the first try, we have our first butt onboard for the morning.
We work the area only being able to manage a few rockcods and scratch baits,
everyone else seem to be hooking up to Bat Rays. The bite had died and
decided to head over to Seal Rock but to no avail, a few nets went down
but the bite died soon after. Tried Bakers Beach, Crissy Field on the way
in and then called it a day at 4pm, the wind picked up and the Fog had
started creeping back in and it was getting cold. Fun day, had a great
time watching Kim who had brought his oatmeal in a ziplock bag and watching
him eatting it was pretty funny. No spoon or straw...just squeeze!!!! Talked
to Guy Gilchrist, Bruce on the "Cinnabar", Mike Aha "Jarhead" who was on
Mt.Diablo with his Handheld, Ken on "Fishy Go Lure" and a few others. Was
nice to hear eveyone on the water.
